The
CRF450R ManFunnel™ 2002-2008
Honda
has come to us with a 4-stroke motocrosser that was built for speed
and power. The days of thumpers being low maintenance are gone,
unless you want a trail bike. One of the most crucial aspects of
maintaining a high level of performance and durability from the
motor is frequent oil changes in the motor and transmission. In
the case of the CRF450 this is somewhat of a nuisance due to the
location of the drain bolts. It is messy and can take up precious
time and if you run a skid plate you can double your time and mess.
If you own a CRF450 you know what I mean.

Draining
the Oil
Filling the Motor Oil
Filling the Transmission

The
ManFunnel was designed to put an end to this headache once and for
all. Never again remove the skid plate to change your oil.
The funnel is heat stablized injection molded plastic so it is going
to last. Take a look at the following pictures to see how it actually
works. Click on any of the pictures to enlarge them. Actual funnel
is red, yellow prototype shown in pictures and video.
| Gasket
installation:
Before the ManFunnel can be used yo must install the supplied
foam gasket. Make sure that the funnel is clean and free from
debris before installing the foam. Remove the backing to expose
the adhesive. Starting with the the "notched" side,
align top edge of the foam with the top of the funnel with
the die cut notch of the foam centered in the corresponding
notch on the funnel. Wrap the foam around the first corner
at a slight upward angle. As you round the second corner and
smooth the remainder down the foam should be approximately
1/8 of an inch above the funnel lip. This rise above the funnel
opposite the notch is imperative to ensure proper a seal due
to the complex contouring of the cases. See diagram for a
clear illustration.
|

The
foam should be adhered flush with the top of the funnel
on the notched side then rise above the funnel across the
back and around the opposite side to achieve the 1/8"
rise.
|
| Step
1: Proper Fit
After
cleaning any dirt from the underside of the bike that may
prevent proper fitting. Heat the bike per specification in
owners manual. Then install the funnel as shown. Be
sure to move the vent hoses out of the way. (see
image 1)
|

A
proper fit is key to success. Ensure that the funnel clips
on to the frame and seals properly behind the tranny bolt.
Don't forget to pull the vent hoses out of the way!
|

Getting
the funnel to seat around the serial number tab is the most
important step. The foam should be pressed against the case
forming a leak proof seal.
|
Step
2: Drain the Oil
Put your drain pan under the funnel and remove
the drain bolts.
|
Step
3: Empty the Cases
Once
the draining oil has slowed to a drip install the splash
guard (included with purchase).
Mount the bike and with your left hand holding the
kill switch to ensure the bike DOES NOT
start, depress the kick start lever several times. This
will flush the remaining oil out and the splash guard will
prevent a mess on your wall. This is the most overlooked
step in oil change and it is almost as important as changing
the oil itself. Just be sure to hold the kill switch
down while you are kicking it over.

|

Mount
the bike, hold the kill switch and kick it over.
|
Step
4: Install the Drain Bolts
Reinstall both drain bolts
to specified torque.
|
Step
5: Fill the Motor and Transmission
Use the ManFunnel to fill
the motor and transmission. Insert the funnel into the fill
hole and pour in your new oil as per specified by your manual
for both type and amount. By using the funnel for filling
you reduce the risk of knocking dirt and or debris into
the case with your oil and it is much easier and cleaner
than pouring from a bottle or ratio cup.
|

Filling
the motor is as easy as it gets.
|

Even
with the awkward angle of the transmission fill hole the
ManFunnel makes filling clean and painless.
